Leukemia is something that personally touched my family. My cousin first contracted this horrible disease back when I was a child. In fact, I can remember praying for her healing on a regular basis. She was a mother of a set of twins (one had died of SIDS), and so suffering was nothing new to this family. I can remember how her disease went into remission (this was back in the 1980’s), and she was even featured on a local leukemia special. It seemed that all was well.
Unfortunately, in later years, the disease came back with a passion, and she passed away in spite of her remission. My heart went out to my distant family member. I was never close, but I know how hard it was for my aunt to bury her vibrant daughter who was truly not a lot older than I.
Although there are treatments for leukemia and lymphoma, and science is continuing to learn more about cancer treatment, it is something that touches everyone in some way. Thankfully, there are wonderful events such as the Light The Night® event featured in the video above. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society are able to provide patient support services, advocacy for lifesaving treatments and the most promising cancer research anywhere. This event welcomes all ages as it is a casual fundraising event with no particular fitness requirement. This is your chance to do something positive for cancer research. When we all come together, we can change the world!
