Since I am a former music teacher, I am always intrigued when I see a children’s music CD up for review. And when I got the chance to review a new kid’s percussion CD in exchange for my honest review, I couldn’t have been happier! Continue reading for my (and my daughter’s) review.
I Like Everything About You is a new CD from Crosspulse Percussion Ensemble. After two decades of concerts, workshops, and educational research, they have finally released their first children’s CD, and their hope is that the entire family will enjoy it. What is Crosspulse? Well, it is part international drill team, part polycultural rhythm, and all types of percussion! Anything you can think of (and things you probably never considered) are featured on the CD along with a St. Paul’s School 5th grade choir from Oakland, California.
From the moment I turned this CD on, I was enthralled! In fact, my daughter (who is going into fifth grade in the fall) was equally enraptured. They sing and perform traditional African, Latina, and even American songs using their voices, body percussion, and various cultural percussion instruments. I don’t think you could help but like it. The music is uplifting, and even the songs that are sung in a different language are thoroughly enjoyable!
My personal favorites were Body Beat and Little Liza Jane. In fact, my daughter and I both joined in on Little Liza Jane, and we didn’t want to quit listening. The body percussion was unlike nothing I had heard. As a music teacher, I occasionally featured some African groups in my teaching, but this was immeasurably better! This is an educational CD, but more importantly, it is fun to listen to. I could definitely see myself putting this on in the car, and my daughter and I could rock along to the beat.

I was sent a free CD from the company in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
