Interview With Actor Wes Brown, “Under the Autumn Moon” & “Christmas At Graceland”

As all my readers know, I regularly support everything “Hallmark,” and in the case of Wes Brown, I honestly don’t think you can be much more Hallmark than this leading man. Because Wes is such a huge fan favorite (and of course, I myself am of the same persuasion as the Hallmark fans), it was an absolute treat to be able to chat with him earlier this week about his not one but TWO upcoming Hallmark movies. And in anticipation of tomorrow’s (October 13th) premiere, Under the Autumn Moon, it is my honor to share our engaging conversation with my readers today.

RH: Wes, it is so great to talk with you today. I hope you’re having a wonderful day.

WB: Yes, thank you, Ruth, for reaching out. It’s been an awesome day, and I truly can’t complain.

I want to begin by telling you that the Hallmark fans–including me–are excited to see you not in just one Hallmark movie, but two movies before the end of the year!

I completely agree. I’m excited too! {laughs}

You are very popular in the Hallmark community. I have been reading many comments from the fans, and the anticipation is massive.

It is greatly appreciated. I love that. Thank you very much.

So the first film we have coming up this Saturday (October 13th) is called Under the Autumn Moon. What can you tell us about your character and how that relates to the overall story of the film?

Wes Brown Credit: ©2018 Crown Media United States LLC/Photographer: Allen Fraser

Well, the character I play, Josh, has worked very hard over the course of his life to maintain this piece of land…which is much more than just a piece of land to him. This is his ranch, and it means a great deal to him. And he’s fighting for it. But he is smart enough that he is willing to listen to all of his options. Even though some of them might not be in his best interest, some of those options might be in his family’s best interest. It’s a sweet story that takes place in a beautiful setting. I don’t want to give too much away, of course. So I’ll just say that hopefully everyone enjoys watching it as much as we enjoyed filming it.

I have no doubt that we will. Now, Lindy Booth is your co-star. This was your first time to work with her, right?

Yes, that’s right. We had not worked together before.

Did you guys have an instant connection? Was it really easy to create that on-screen chemistry that I know is so important in these films?

You know what? When it comes to meeting my co-stars, I always want to take a few jabs and tease them a little bit. I pretty much did that immediately with Lindy, and I think she got my sense of humor right off the bat. It was great from the start. I hope it resonates well on screen, but we had a blast making this film and working together.

I honestly figured you both would probably hit it off fairly well, judging from what I have seen from both of you in other films. From what I could sense, it seemed like you two were well-matched. And honestly, Hallmark never disappoints, so I figure it will be an enjoyable film to watch.

That’s great, Ruth, I’m hoping that too.

Now, as excited as I am about your Fall Harvest movie, I am personally even more excited about Christmas In Graceland. I mean, nothing against anybody else in the movie, but when I heard that Kellie Pickler was making her Hallmark movie debut, I was so excited!

Christmas At Graceland

Oh, yeah, they definitely picked her for a reason. While I don’t want to speak on her behalf, from what I understand, Hallmark was searching for a project with her in mind. And I think they picked the perfect project for her. And, of course, she did a great job on this one as well.

Then when I heard that this movie was filming in Graceland, that just kind of blew my mind. I can’t even imagine what that must have been like… filming a Christmas movie at Graceland.

Oh, yeah, it was great. The only problem was that this was supposed to be a Christmas movie in every sense of the word. But what we really shot was a winter movie in Memphis in July! {laughs} Hopefully it looks cold because it was not. It was VERY hot!!

That seems to be the problem with these Christmas films when they shoot them in the summer.

True, but so many of these are filmed in Canada, and while it gets hot in Canada, you can often get a little bit of a break there. But you don’t get any kind of break in Memphis in July. But that’s okay with me. It was still a great experience, and I am hoping all the fans will truly enjoy this movie. We had so much fun!

What can you tell us about the overall story of Christmas At Graceland?

Christmas At Graceland

I play Clay, and Kellie plays Laurel. Both of these characters were a thing in the music world back in the day both personally and professionally. They sang together and were up-and-comers, trying to make a name for themselves. Then for one reason or another, she picked up and left and went to Chicago. So this movie is a story about her coming back. She comes back to do some business deals then runs into me and her past. And we try to make the best of it. And then the story just unfolds from there.

I’m sure Kellie is singing in the movie. Are we also going to hear some music from you?

Yeah, I mean not as much as her…which is a good thing. 😁 But we do get to sing a few songs together.

So we have both of these Hallmark movies coming up. I just want to make sure. Is there anything else coming up that you want to make sure to mention?

You know, not really. For anything that may be up and coming, nothing is set in stone. I’ll just focus on these two for right now, but maybe in the next few days or so, something more concrete might happen. I’m sure there will be more.

Enjoying the Bahamas

Well, that just means we need to keep watching for more announcements in the near future, which I’m sure we will all do. So now, in closing, do you have a favorite holiday tradition you would like to share with us?

Gosh, the first thing that comes to mind is…this is gonna sound silly, but years ago, we decided that one tradition we were going to have was to do something different each year. And I know that is the exact opposite of tradition. But that has become the tradition. We go somewhere we’ve never been before, whether it be in the fall or at Christmas. We try to do something different each year and have a new experience. Whether it’s going to this mountain or going to this or that part of the world. And again, I know that sounds kind of strange because it’s the opposite of what a tradition is supposed to be, but it’s become our new norm, and it’s really enjoyable.

I don’t think that sounds strange.

Also, because of work, we’ve spent the last several holidays in really different places. I guess because of our little bit of nomadic lifestyle, we have the ability to do different kinds of things. It’s definitely not the same thing each year. We change it up.

At Halloween

I think that sounds really exciting. You’ve created a new kind of tradition in being non-traditional. A sort of non-traditional tradition.

Yeah, but with that said, we do have the things we always do each year. There are certain dinners that our family does every year. We do a Christmas wreath pizza. Every year, we make a pizza that is shaped like a Christmas wreath. We have silly traditions like that that we do. Some of the big ones do change from time to time. One thing that I always make it a point to do is…I kind of go full “Clark Griswold” over Christmas lights. That’s one tradition that’ll never change. We actually have Halloween lights on my house as we speak, and a lot of people don’t do that.

Wes, I so appreciate your time today and being willing to chat with me about your Hallmark movies. We are excited for Saturday and for your Christmas movie. And I am sure the Hallmark fans will come out in droves.

Ruth, I appreciate you taking the time. And to the fans, I am grateful for your support. Enjoy the movies!

While Wes and I only had a few minutes to discuss his Hallmark movies, I was extremely appreciative to both the Hallmark Channel and Wes himself for carving out this niche of time for us to connect. Even within this brief interview, I can verify to the fans that the genuine, warm, and amiable gentleman with whom you have fallen in love on screen maintains the same effortless, charming persona off-screen. His Southern roots have served him well in his approach to life, and his humility and eagerness to entertain the viewers are foremost in his mind. While it is true that thanks to his profession, he and his family have definitely savored a plethora of assorted places in this world, his devotion to his family is always paramount no matter where he may find himself. Moreover, his delightful sense of humor and his strong work ethic are two attributes that will continue to make him a hot commodity in Hallmark circles. And in truth, no leading lady could ask for a more perfect leading man than Wes.

I do hope that everyone within the U.S. will make a concerted effort to watch the Hallmark Channel tomorrow (October 13th) evening as we revel in the joy and wonder that is Under the Autumn Moon. Then in addition to that, be sure to mark those calendars for Christmas In Graceland, which is scheduled to premiere November 17th on the Hallmark Channel as part of the highly anticipated Countdown to Christmas programming. And while you’re getting all of that programmed into your schedule, be sure that you visit each of Wes’ links below and consider following him on social media. Even though he may not be the most prolific social media enthusiast, followers of his are guaranteed to receive the most relevant updates on all his current and upcoming (as well as just announced) projects. Plus, Wes has an impressive list of Hallmark offerings available on the network (I believe these two Christmas movies will bring the total to eight with one additional Christmas movie that originally aired on Lifetime but is considered “Hallmark-friendly”), and if Hallmark utilizes his talents that often, I would venture to say he is a “keeper” whose myriad of talents continues to resonate with viewers. No matter what his future holds, there is no doubt in my mind that he is a veritable Hallmark star who has stood the test of time, and I do believe that every new contribution merely prompts the fans to fall in love with him more and more. And as many of the female fans would attest, he is easy on the eyes, and when his handsome features are combined with his gifts and authenticity, isn’t that a recipe for Hallmarkies success?

I have followed Wes Brown since Love Begins. He is an incredible actor but was blown away by his musical talents. Beautiful singing voice and phenomenal pianist. He comes across as one of the classiest actors in the Hallmark camp of actors. Hope he continues to entertain us for many years to come. Maybe even make another movie showing his acting talent and his musical talents. I understand that he also plays the guitar and drums. I only saw that small part of him playing the guitar in Christmas in Mississippi. God Bless Wes Brown and his family.

The first time I saw Wes Brown was in Love Begins and I have been following him since. I had heard that at one time he was in a Band but was blown away not only by his singing but his fantastic playing of the piano. When I saw Christmas in Graceland I recorded it and everytime it is shown again I keep recording the last 10 to 15 minutes every time so I can put it on and just listen to him sing and dominate that piano. Hope he keeps making more movies and maybe again in another story that shows his acting ability and musical taklents. God Bless Wes Brown and his family.

Great interview..I wasn’t familiar with Kellie Pickler or Wes Brown but came away very impressed with them both. They sound great singing together.Read your interview in hopes of finding out if Wes did his own singing.
I was surprised at the quality of her acting and his singing and the Graceland storyline was the best of the 2018 bunch.
Look forward to seeing both of them again (and the gentleman that played the bank owner, he should become a Hallmark regular if he isn’t already).

Just finished reading about that good looking hunk Wes Brown!!! Seems such a great guy and so easy on the eyes!!! I’m old enough to be his grand mother, but my heart sure skips a beat when watching him.

My best to you for interview and also to that handsome dude Wes Brown!!!

I recently watched Christmas in Graceland and was in Awe of both Wes Brown and Kellie Pickler. You would have never known it was Kellie’s debut for acting! They were both Amazing! Wes should consider recording if he hasn’t already! The movie was very well written and written as if the parts were written just for those 2. They are truly both Beautiful, Gracious and Humbled People. Because of it, they will both go to the moon in the Biz! I followed Kellie when she was an IDOL contestant and am very proud of her accomplishments especially from the life she has endured as a child, etc.. May God Bless Them Both!

I really enjoyed the movie on Saturday night. I didn’t tweet along–I was really tired–but I did watch the entire movie.

I’m looking forward to the Christmas movie! I’ve always wanted to go to Graceland, so this will be a fun way to “visit” while enjoying favorite actors, music, and the magic of a Hallmark Christmas.
