Getting Rid of Moths

You will need to clean thoroughly and remove anything that will attract moths. You will also need to kill any of the insects that may be lingering in your home. Here are some things that you may want to do.

Know How to Kill their Eggs

Moths generally reach reproductive age at 11 months, which doesn’t leave a large timeframe to kill them before they start laying eggs.  This means that the problem won’t go away until you destroy the eggs to prevent new offspring. Fortunately, there are a number of steps that you can take to kill their eggs:

  • Vacuum the house thoroughly. Moth eggs are less than a mm in diameter. You won’t be able to find them by inspecting your house, so you will need to thoroughly clean to get them. Their eggs may drop to the floor, so it is very important to vacuum your house.
  • Freeze all of your fabrics. Very cold temperatures will destroy moth eggs. Place your clothes in the freezer for about twelve hours to kill them.
  • Turn up the heat. Moth eggs also can’t survive in temperatures exceeding 140 degrees Fahrenheit. You may want to crank your heat up to kill them. You may want to do this during the summer months when the summer months so that you don’t need to spend as much money on heating to get to that temperature.

Killing moth eggs should be one of your top priorities. These tips will help prevent a new generation of moths from infesting your home. Unfortunately, some infestations are more difficult to deal with than others. You may need to find experts in pest control such as the leading exterminators in Arizona.

Make Your House Less Appealing

You will also want to make sure that your house is less appealing to moths. Here are some things that you will want to try:

  • Control humidity. Moths have a number of natural habitats, but tend to be drawn to wetlands and marshes, because they love humid environments. You will want to reduce the humidity levels to make them less appealing.
  • Focus on cleanliness. Moths are drawn to crumbs to feed off of and debris that they can nest in. You will need to clean your house carefully so they have less of an incentive to settle in your house.

Creating a clean, sterile environment is one of the best ways to drive moths from your home. You will need to be very thorough to get rid of them if you have a lot of moths living in your house.
