Washington DC: Department of Treasury - Alexander Hamilton Statue

I have always been somewhat of fan of Alexander Hamilton (even though he was killed in a duel–not his most brilliant moment) mainly because of his political and financial views.  I sometimes wish he were still here with us so he could solve today’s crises.  On this date in 1788, Alexander Hamilton said the following words at the New York Convention on the adoption of the Federal Constitution:

“Here, sir, the people govern; here they act by their immediate representatives.”

I sometimes feel that things have changed as far as this is concerned.  I feel that more and more “we the people” don’t have a lot of choice about what is going on in the government.  But you know what?  We are still better off than most of the world–I would say any of the world.  So therefore, I choose to be optimistic.  Our country had trouble, but let’s focus on the good!

Interesting to read about the views of people in history. I also want to be optimistic–but I agree, we have less voice than any other time in the past.
