ABOUT THE BOOK

Miranda Fenster, known throughout society as the Fairy Tale Miss because she insists that happily ever afters are possible even amongst the arranged marriages of the Victorian aristocracy,  is on a mission. Her goal? To rescue her brother. Her adversary? Simon Watterly, Duke of Kerstone. A man who almost offered for her five years before.

Simon has a mission of his own. Furious with his late father and disillusioned by the honorable facade of society, he believes that family honor requires the ultimate sacrifice from him. Unfortunately, Miranda is determined to change his mind. Will Simon get his wish or will Miranda make him see he deserves a happily ever after?

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Anyone who ever dream of marrying a duke?  Maybe you have had romantic dreams that you are certain will come true one day.  Well, this book is definitely for you!  You will fall in love with Miranda and her story.  It is unlike most fairy tales you will ever read.  And it is a historical romance that will keep you guessing.

I was quite intrigued by this story from the beginning.  I’m a sucker for a poor girl who falls in love with a rich duke.  But this duke, Simon, has a secret that keeps him from giving her the fairy tale she has always dreamed of.  In fact, it seems that her mother-in-law treats her better than her husband!

I loved the fact that Miranda never gave up.  She loved Simon so selflessly.  And more than anything, she just wants him to love her.  And she cares about her other sisters (and brother)and getting them to come out in society.  In some ways, Miranda was almost too good compared to Simon.  He was such a fool, but then again, aren’t most men?

The bedroom scenes after they were married were not a problem for me.  And while there was passion outside of marriage, it really did not go too far.  The profanity really was not a major problem–about typical for historical fiction.  I did find the end a little confusing.  I liked the plot twists that author added in, but I have to admit that it sometimes did not make sense.  But in the end, the book ended as it should.

If you like historical romances in s semi-predictable style, you will like this book.  While you may be able to figure out much of the book’s plot, there will be a few surprises–I can guarantee that!

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.  I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

About the author:

Kelly began writing in elementary school when her 6th grade teacher praised her essay on bread baking that went awry. She continued her writing in high school, writing for and co-editing the school newspaper. Kelly’s speciality was movie reviews (she was not going to do sports!).

In college, Kelly got her BA in English (duh). She began to focus on science fiction, where she spent many years writing sf stories about mothers that no science fiction magazine bought (tip to aspiring writers — send stories that the magazine demographic wants to read). She made a few sales to women-focused small fantasy magazines, but mostly spent her time raising children and working odd jobs.

Kelly got her big publishing break when she switched to writing romance novels (partly because she enjoys romance novels, but also because she got tired of hearing, “This story doesn’t really end, you should turn it into a novel.”)

After publishing seven historical romances (the Once Upon a Wedding series), Kelly got an idea for a young adult novel series based around a cheerleading teen witch. The Salem Witch Tryouts was published by Simon and Schuster, along with two other books in the series and two others not in the series.

When the indie author digital revolution hit, Kelly got the rights back to her historical romance series and put them out herself. She then began adding new indie novels, a young adult dark fantasy novel, a chicklit novel, and several cozy momlit mystery novels in a new Secret Shopper Mom series.

But then…her fairy godmother finally waved her magic wand and Kelly McClymer, Author, turned into….
