On this date in 1913, the United States parcel service was officially begun. Packages could not weigh more than fifty pounds, and at least two children were sent via this service–a practice that was eventually outlawed.

Typically, parcel post is one service by which ones sends gifts to loved one who live elsewhere.  The giving of gifts and giving in general should be a part of what Christians do on a regular basis. As 2 Corinthians 9:7 says, “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, no reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”  May cheerful giving be a way of life for all of us.
