This Day in History November 25, 1940
I have very fond memories of Woody Woodpecker, and on this date in 1940, this character first appeared in the animation short Knock Knock. Mel Blanc (I love him!) was the original voice of this woodpecker. Woody made his television début in 1957, and he has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. There were eight children in their family, and he attempted to enter the U.S. through California. That did not work out so he became a prizefighter when he was in his teens. From […] -
This Day in History August 7, 1884
When I was growing up, one of my favorite films was The Wizard of Oz. In fact, it was the first musical I ever watched. It was where I was introduced to such greats a Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, and today’s feature. On this date in 1884, the beautiful Billie Burke was born. In her day, she was indeed a […] -
This Day in History July 31, 1928
For me, lion at the beginning of the old MGM movies always meant quality. This iconic lion made its first appearance on this date in 1928. It was their first talkie for that studio, but this was not the first lion. This was Jackie, the second in a long line of lions. The first of the lions was Stats, and […] -
