Autumn Reflections (The Northern Light Series Book 2)Autumn Reflections by Katie Mettner

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Looking at the book overall,I found this book genuinely satisfying in spite of the somewhat slow beginning. It took me a little while to connect with the characters, but this is the first book I have read in this series. That could have been part of the problem.

I became completely mesmerized by the book once the dog was introduced. No spoilers, but I was absolutely amazed at how the definition of “guide dogs” has expanded. In addition to this, the romance was engaging, and basic Christian values were emphasized in spite of any deviant behavior.

When I choose to review a Christian book (or at least one that is marketed that way), I do tend to hold the book to a significantly higher standard. I expect the book to be completely clean and have a gospel message. This book is classified as “spicy Christian romance,” and I can say that it is essentially profanity-free. I could have done without any of the minimal profanity within the book, but everyone has different standards in this area.

While I still am confident that a four-star rating is what this book deserves, I was most disturbed at how far the physical intimacy extended between the single characters, but at least they didn’t go all the way. On an additional note, there is a gay reference that seemed out of place.

In conclusion, the book is an energetic, romantic read that deals with real issues from a fundamentally Christian perspective. The reader does not have to be concerned with an unnatural gospel message–it is implied, more or less.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

Be sure to read more about the book here.
