One of the biggest mysteries of the fall of czarist Russia was the fate of Grand Duchess Anastasia. Did she survive the firing squad? The stories of her survival became a popular speculation. However, on this date in 2008, skelatal remains found in Yekaterinburg, Russia, were confirmed by DNA testing to be her remains and those of her brother Alexei. This was consistent with the account that stated two bodies were seperated following the execution. This should have ended speculation, but a quick online search will reveal that is not the case. I suppose romanticism will always be a part of this tale.
