Most of us have heard of the disaster associated with the Hindenberg, but fifteen years before that on this date in 1922, the Roma airship crashed resulting in the loss of 34 crewmen’s lives. The airship was purchased from Italy for $250,000 in 1919, and it crash-landed in Norfolk, Virginia. And this became the last hydrogen-filled airship in the U.S.
