The Lying Game by Sara Shepard
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I had this book sitting on my shelf for a while, and I finally decided to give it a go. And from the beginning, it was quite eerie and mesmerizing. Usually, the literary device where dead people talk does not go over very well with me. However, Sara Shepard is a master at this technique. I never found it weird. The flashbacks, the commentary, and the general story are amazingly written. And the only problem I have is that I have to read the next book! Don’t expect full resolution, but do expect twists and turns that you never saw coming.
I normally would mark a young adult book down for profanity–there is more than what there should be in this book. There are no bedroom scenes. There is no blood and gore, but there is some violence described. This book is meant for older teens and adults who can look past the profanity. Sara Shepard’s style is so unbelievable that I can look past some of the more disturbing things in the book. I read this book at night, and I have to say it is a little creepy to read it at night. And the bigger problem I had was putting the book down! It was an outstanding book, and I would recommend it to those who like a good mystery.
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially copmensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
