Young adult novels can be tricky for adults to review, and they can even be a bit frightening for parents of preteens to read (Yikes!). This is the first book I have read in the series, but it was incredibly easy to jump in and read without having read the other three. For that, I was incredibly appreciative. There are no bedroom scenes (but a sexual encounter is discussed, though not in detail), and there is only one instance of profanity. Thankfully, young adults and parents can generally agree on this being a suitable read for their age.

Since this novel is written in first person as diary entries, I have no doubt that teenage girls (and probably preteens too) will thoroughly delight in this novel. There is not an incredible amount of depth to the book, but it is rather realistic. I am quite beholden to the author for having involved parents and actual consequences of bad decisions. Because the book is told from a young adult perspective, teens will readily relate. No judgments are passed, and hopefully parents will be able to discuss the situations with their children.
