As a Christian, I am extremely troubled by today’s feature. The Crusades are a horrid blotch on the history of Christianity, and I am ashamed that so many people killed Muslims in the name of the Lord. On this date in 1095, Pope Urban II made a very famous speech at the Council of Clermont which was responsible for the First Crusades. He encouraged Christian princes to rescue the Holy Lands from the Turks. He said that Jerusalem needed to be reclaimed for the Christian church. And thus the “most successful” of the Crusades began. If only history could be rewritten, but it cannot. For more information:
