I apologize for these being late the past couple days. My host server has had some difficulties. But hopefully that is getting worked out so we can proceed as normal.
I had never heard of Nestorianism, but today’s feature is probably where this doctrine (heresy) originated. On this date in 435, Nestorius, former Archbishop of Constantinople, was condemned and exiled due to his supposed heretical writings. I have not researched his teachings much, but it seems that his writings spawned the heretical teaching concerning Christ not being fully God and fully man. I seem to remember something about Nestorianism from my Bible college days, but it is a little fuzzy. This all relates to the Greek Orthodox church anyway, and I am very unfamiliar with that church’s history since they split with the Western Catholic church. The strange thing is that the original “heresy” he proposed seemed to be one of semantics. He didn’t believe that the Virgin Mary should be referred to as the “Mother of God,” but the “Mother of Christ.” This seems to be splitting hairs in the simplest form, but again, I am not a theological scholar.
