I have been contemplating this post for some time, and now I just know the time is right. As you know, if you have followed me for any length of time, you know that I not only love reading, but I love music. I try not to speak about Taylor Swift too much, but she is one of my favorites. More for her music than her voice. And more for her image and message than just about anything else. I find myself playing her albums over and over again, and I often even feel the need to defend her when the media starts putting her down for some frivolous thing. My daughter is a super fan, and I couldn’t be happier.
This week, I was “treated” to the Pepsi advertisement with Beyoncé. Let me up front here. I am not a fan of hers. I think she can sing well, and there are times she looks rather attractive. I kind of liked her when she was in her group, but I just feel that she does so many inappropriate things that it really bugs me. I had heard she had a big advertisement deal with Pepsi, and after seeing the ad where she “sings,” and gyrates her body in suggestive ways, I really don’t even want to buy another Pepsi product.
On the other hand, about one or two months ago, I saw the Taylor Swift ad for Diet Coke. It features her “22” song, and I was so pleased to see her advertising something that I like. I know Diet Coke is not the healthiest drink in the world, but I feel it is somewhat better than Pepsi. At least it doesn’t have the sugar. And please don’t go off about how bad soda is for us–I know it! But if I’m going to drink it, I only drink Diet.
Once she released that ad, the internet began to criticize Taylor Swift for endorsing something unhealthy. Amazingly, there was not the same criticisms about Beyoncé whose ad is borderline pornography and advertises a product that is full of sugar.. But if Taylor Swift wants to throw her support behind something that is potentially unhealthy and not be dressed in a suggestive manner, the “critics” are going to take her on. I actually find this a double standard, but that is just me.
I happened to find this video that puts the two of the ads against each other. This is not the bad one that I saw earlier this week, but it’s bad enough, in my opinion. The lady on Clever TV bugs me, but this seemed like the best video to show. Beyoncé’s ad is towards the end, so if you don’t care to see it, turn it off before that.
Yesterday, I happened to look up a current song I really like to see if the video had been released yet, and when I saw this yesterday at lunch, I was absolutely floored. Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift, and Keith Urban recently released Highway Don’t Care. I honestly loved the song from the beginning. I loved seeing them perform it live on one of the award shows. But the video completely threw me for a loop. If you have not seen it, please watch it below. It is my current favorite video, and I love the fact that Tim McGraw made this video with his teenage children in mind, chiefly his 16-year-old that just started driving. I also made my daughter watch it. Enjoy!
By the way, I am linking this post to Friendship Friday since the theme is music.

I know it is a double standard for sure. Taylor Swift was criticized at an awards show recently for dressing scantily. She tweeted back I had the most clothes on. I checking out your videos to. Will be back regularly to read your blog.
Thanks.
