Eleven-year-old orphan Félicie (Fanning) has one dream — to go to Paris and become a dancer. Her best friend, Victor (Wolff), an imaginative, exuberant boy with a passion for creating, has a dream of his own — to become a famous inventor. In a leap of faith, Victor and Félicie leave their orphanage in pursuit of their passions. But there’s a catch: Félicie must pretend to be the child of a wealthy family in order to gain admittance to the prestigious and competitive Opera Ballet School in Paris. And with no professional dance training, she quickly learns that talent alone is not enough to overcome the ruthless, conniving attitudes of her fellow classmates, led by the devious Camille Le Haut (Ziegler). Determined to succeed, Félicie finds her mentor in the tough and mysterious school custodian, Odette (Jepsen), who, along with Victor’s encouraging friendship, help her reach for the stars.

My thoughts: When it comes to family viewing, I cannot think of a better movie than this one. While Leap! is geared towards those in elementary school and below, I think that even the parents may enjoy the themes that are presented. It’s all about going after your dreams no matter what. There’s the typical mean girl, mean mother, love triangle, and some notably wacky moments, but at the end of it all, dreams are what propel Félicie to never give up on the dreams that are beating within her heart.

However, there are a couple of other important themes as well. The end never justifies the means. And above all, do not forget who you are and try to be someone you are not. Deceit is never the way to get ahead, as young Félicie learns in a very painful lesson. And I am grateful to see that even in a kids’ film like this, morality is emphasized.

Some may complain about the elements that are unbelievable. Of course, the story is a bit far-fetched. But what animated children’s film isn’t? We watch movies about fairy tales and minions, so having reality strained for an hour and a half of good, clean fun is certainly not out of the realm of possibilities.

As far as any potentially objectionable issues, there is only one where a character passes gas. There is no profanity or anything indecent. There are some scary elements for very young children, but honestly no more frightening than a typical Disney fairytale. I found the animation well-executed, the music inspirational, and the voice acting expertly done.

Understand that this is not a movie that will win an Academy Award, but it is one that is family-friendly and motivational as well as being pure entertainment!

Seems like a good story I like watching animated movies because they are mostly imaginative and what do you think isn’t imagination is beter than reality?
