When the cast and crew left Cedar Cove behind, I made a promise to each of them that I would continue to support them in whatever projects they did in the future, no matter what. And in the case of Teryl Rothery, I have made certain to do just that. I have had the honor of interviewing her two times previously, and with her impending arrival in Chesapeake Shores, I figured it was high time to interview her again. And thankfully, the very amicable, charming, lovely Teryl agreed!
RH: Hallmark viewers recently saw you in Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: The Disappearing Game. As this is (I believe) your first appearance on one of the Hallmark mystery films, what was your experience like?

TR: I had so much fun on Aurora. I just had a lot of fun and lots of laughter. And yes, this is my first murder mystery for Hallmark. I hope it’s the first of many!!!
You also joined the cast of Chesapeake Shores for a bit. What can you tell us about your role and your experience with the show without giving anything away?

I did join Chesapeake Shores. Such a wonderful “family”. And talk about a stunning location. I didn’t want to leave! And of course, reuniting with my friend and fellow Cedar Cove actor, Barbara Niven was a bonus. I feel so blessed to be a part of the Hallmark family.
I don’t want to say too much about my character as I don’t want to give anything away, but for the #Chessies, she may be a nice surprise. Fingers crossed.

My Three Wise Men
My Three Wise Men was an absolute gift from start to finish. You know you’ve got a good thing going when the cast gets together for a read-thru and the chemistry is automatic. And for me, the excitement was there the second I started reading the script. Zac Hag is the writer of this film, and he’s wonderful. I love the character I play. Strong, single mom running a very successful business. She works hard and loves fiercely.
Why do you think that Hallmark continues to experience unprecedented growth as a network?
It truly is unprecedented growth! I believe it’s because they continue to put out a great product. I can’t imagine not having Hallmark movies to watch. I need the warm and fuzzies. I love having my heartstrings pulled. Such a great way to escape the not-so-kind realities, you know?

You have the distinction of being a part of three of the four original Hallmark Channel series thus far {Cedar Cove, Good Witch, Chesapeake Shores}. If you had the opportunity to be a part of When Calls the Heart, what type of part would you envision for yourself?
Ha! I would love ANY part on When Calls The Heart!! And yes, I feel very fortunate to have been a part of three original series. Let’s make it four for four!!!
As a more mature woman in the entertainment industry, how do you combat ageism and those who tend to think that once women reach a certain age, they are “done”?

Yes, it is definitely a harder road to climb for mature women. (And, by the way, Ruth, I like your term “mature women” much better than what I use……AGING WOMEN. hahaha!) As far as combating it, I don’t really have an answer. For me, I simply do my best to take care of myself and trust that the work will continue to come my way.
For quite some time, there has been talk of some kind of a Stargate reboot. If you were able to be a part of this venture, how would you like to be involved?
In any way possible!!! I loved playing Janet and I loved being on that show. And even though she was killed off in season seven, it is sci-fi so I can hope.
The Good Doctor
Are you considering any writing/directing/producing in the near future?
I’ve actually thought about putting pen to paper lately. I’ve gotten as far as buying a book on screenplay writing, but I have yet to read it. Lol.
We all know you are such a devoted mother to your energetic daughter. How have you been keeping up your energy lately, so you can keep up with her? Does she still have aspirations within the arts (I seem to remember her artistic abilities)? Is she still playing hockey?
My little angel certainly keeps me on my toes. In addition to her hockey and art classes, she’s now taking violin lessons!! I have no idea what prompted her to want violin, but she loves it AND I got talked into learning it too. She said to me the other day “Mom, can we go play on the street now and get money?” I said, “Well honey, we’ll need to learn more songs other than Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. “. Hahahaha!
Any other upcoming works you would like to mention? Any fan events coming up that you can announce?
I think you have mentioned all my upcoming projects and, of course, Good Doctor as well. As for appearances, I’m doing Gatecon in Vancouver (September 14-16). And I’m also heading to the U.K. this November. I am truly blessed and grateful.

I recently mentioned to some of my friends that Teryl is one of the most outstanding women I have ever had the pleasure of interviewing, and this post is an ideal illustration of that undeniable fact. Teryl’s responses are consistently germane to the questions I ask, and she is careful to include engaging details, humorous anecdotes, and exuberant appreciation for every experience throughout her illustrious career. While I never discount the newsy interviews full of chit-chat and extensive rejoinders I sometimes encounter, Teryl makes my task straightforward, jovial, relatable, and at the core of everything–authentic! The mutually respectful alliance we enjoy is one that I cherish in the extreme, and her willingness to make time for an independent interviewer like me is something for which I cannot praise her enough. Teryl’s legendary humility and generous support is something that can be witnessed when on set as well as when she sets aside time in her busy schedule to interact with her adoring fans. Even though she has enjoyed a lengthy career, she has never mislaid the enthusiasm for what she gets to do for a living. In fact, I believe it’s safe to assume that her exhilaration continues to increase each and every year as she has such remarkable opportunities to portray intriguing characters with fortitude and profundity.
I hope that all viewers in the U.S. who have access to the Hallmark Channel will make it a priority to watch Chesapeake Shores tonight (August 12th) and every single Sunday night through the end of season three (And to our Canadian neighbors, please tune in at the same time to Super Channel Heart & Home). I am immensely thankful to the Hallmark Network for proceeding to cast Teryl in their films and shows because I believe she is a genuine role model for women, especially as we mature, that you honestly can continue to pursue your dreams and have a full, rich life filled with passion and love. To me, Teryl is living proof that a woman’s inner beauty will invariably radiate her countenance, no matter her age, and if she advances in living her life with an attitude of gratitude, I believe all women, just like Teryl, will only become more resplendent as the years go by!
