A couple years back, I happened to notice a special young lady guest-starring on the popular Hallmark show Good Witch, and I was impressed enough to reach out to her for a quick interview. Since that time, Meghan Heffern has had some incredible opportunities, not the least of which is a supporting role in the first Hallmark Winterfest offering of 2019, Winter Castle. Recently, Meghan agreed to an updated interview, and it would appear that this young lady’s career is still advancing at a fairly steady pace with even more amazing roles being regularly added to her repertoire. In anticipation of tonight’s premiere, I am pleased to share our recent Q & A session.

RH: Since our last interview a couple of years ago, you made your first Hallmark Christmas movie, Journey Back To Christmas (still a fan favorite). What was that experience like?

MH: It was amazing getting to work with Oliver Hudson, Tom Skerritt and Candace Cameron-Bure. It was also surprisingly warm while we were shooting in Winnipeg, so it was nice to walk around and explore on my days off. Winnipeg has some great restaurants and coffee shops.

Wynnona Earp

You also had a recurring role on Wynnona Earp. Please talk about your experience on that show and why you think this particular series has been so popular with the fans.

Working on Wynonna Earp was hands down one of the greatest work experiences I’ve ever had. I could really go on and on about how amazing the cast, creator and crew are. All I can say is it’s a very special show that speaks to a very special group of fans (Earpers). Earpers are kind, inclusive and hilarious. I think the show speaks to those core things.

UnREAL behind-the-scenes

While I haven’t seen the fourth season of UnREAL, I am a fan of the series, and I see that you were a part of that particular season. What did you enjoy about being on that series, and what can you tease about your character on that season?

My character on UnREAL is a handful. She’s really out to win love and money, (mostly money), and that’s about it. I’ve always been a fan of the bachelor franchise, so it was a treat play pretend at the Everlasting mansion.

We’re about to see you in your first Winterfest film, Winter Castle. What can you tell us about the film and your role on it? Why do you think viewers are going to love this film?

Well, we shot most of the film at an actual ice hotel, so tuning in to see that stunning piece of art will be well worth it. Also, Emilie {Ullerup} and Kevin {McGarry} are adorable together and so talented. I play Lana, the thorn in this potential love connection’s side.

Any other upcoming/recent works you can mention?

I’m gearing up to shoot the second season of the CBC web series How To Buy A Baby. I’m so proud of this series, which follows an infertile couple going through painful and expensive IVF treatments. The second season will follow them navigating adoption.

Why do you believe that Hallmark has enjoyed such unprecedented growth in the past few years?

I think the movies make you feel good. They are comfortable, charming and full of love.

Do you have any aspirations to write/direct/produce?

I do! We will see what 2019 brings.

What are your goals/hopes for 2019?

I hope to be healthy and happy. I hope for my friends and family to be healthy and happy. I hope for my dog to be healthy and happy.

What are some of your favorite winter activities?

I love walking with my dog through nature, especially when the trees are covered in snow. I really, really love sledding and I certainly don’t do it enough.

I am glad to see that Hallmark has continued to use Meghan’s undeniable talent in their projects, and I can only hope that this will continue fully into this new year. While no one can predict the trajectory of Meghan’s career, she definitely possesses all the requisite talent, persistence, and humility to ensure a long-lasting career in this sometimes inconstant industry. She is a young woman who continues to pursue her dreams and goals, and she never permits perceived obstacles to prevent her from accomplishing her ultimate aspirations.

I hope that everyone in the U.S. will make a concerted effort to tune into the Hallmark Channel tonight (January 5th) to watch the premiere of Winter Castle, the first of what purports to be a phenomenal month of movie offerings. (I am not certain when this movie will make its Canadian premiere, but I hope that announcement will be made soon.) Additionally, I would invite my readers to check out all of Meghan’s links below and consider following her where applicable. As it appears that her partnership with Hallmark is established and successful, I look forward to seeing her featured even more on this network (as well as other networks, of course) in 2019 and beyond. And that is enough for me to guarantee that she is a “must-follow” in my book!

My Grandson and I watched Winter Castle last night and wanted to know Lana in the movie was really singing or lip syncing in the the scene with the piano player?
