There are some young actors that initially capture my attention, but due to their busy schedules, I am sometimes unable to secure them for an interview without repeated attempts over a period of years. And in truth, this is the story with Jocelyn Hudon. I first noticed her giftedness in the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie Love Locks, but her schedule never permitted an interview. Until now. When her name was announced at the Hearties Family Reunion in October as the star of the upcoming spinoff series When Hope Calls, I was absolutely ecstatic! Evidently, she is new to a good portion of the Hallmark fans, and I am thrilled to introduce this endearing, vivacious actress to my readers as I feature her today on my site!

RH: Why/How did you decide to pursue a career in acting? What kind of training have you had to prepare you for this career?

JH: I always knew I wanted to be an actor. I was always performing, although I started with ballet. After finishing University and a postgrad (not in acting), I finally got the courage to go after what I wanted 🙂 . I learned as I went.. and am still learning. I did a few acting classes when I started, but I find I learn the most from being on set.

What was your first professional on-screen credit? What are your memories of that job?

My first on-screen credit was Lost Girl! I remember doing the “blocking”.. and I had NO IDEA what was happening because no one really teaches you what happens on set in acting class … they just teach you how to get there.

Hallmark fans first saw you in Good Witch Halloween. What did you know about the network and the show before booking that role? What was your experience like on that first Hallmark project?

Yes, that is correct! No, I didn’t know much about the network or the show.  I was still pretty new to acting when I did Good Witch… I was just happy to be working. It was super fun.

You were also in the film Pixels. What was most memorable about filming that movie for you?

Pixels was amazing. THE FOOD was the most memorable.. and working with Adam Sandler. I’ve always been a huge Adam Sandler fan and he was so cool and nice and had his dogs with him the whole time. Great guy.

You returned to Hallmark in their Hallmark Hall of Fame movie Love Locks that was shot in Paris. What was it like making that movie? Feel free to share any memory you would like from filming that one.

Love Locks was amazing. I got to shoot in Paris with Rebecca {Romijn} and Jerry {O’Connell}, which was so fun. We went out and ate every night and went to see a ballet together, which was also so fun. I was so grateful to get that role. I ate so many macaroons and got to go to the original Laduree.

We next saw you in The Christmas Cure, your first Hallmark Christmas movie. What was it like filming that Christmas movie, and what did you appreciate about your role?

The Christmas Cure was super cute! I got to meet Dale {Whibley}, who I later helped cast in Ice as my love interest! He’s great. Best memory was definitely the fried cornflake chicken they had almost daily for lunch.. SO GOOD.

The Strain

You’ve also been a part of The Strain, Ice, and The Order (all recurring roles, I believe). Anything special stand out about any of these projects?

Ice

Yes! The Strain was really cool to film, ICE I got to film in Cape Town which was incredible.. one of the best experiences of my life so far. And The Order I got to film with my boyfriend Jake 🙂

The Order

I was there when it was announced at the Hearties Family Reunion this past fall that you booked the lead in the new Hallmark show When Hope Calls. What was your familiarity with the show that inspired this spinoff, When Calls the Heart? What attracted you to your role in this new series?

with Morgan Kohan at HFR

I live near Crown Media in LA, so I always used to see billboards of When Calls the Heart. So that’s how I was familiar with it.

When I was auditioning for When Hope Calls, I loved the character Grace and found we were pretty similar. I also loved that we got to shoot WCTH in Vancouver and then OF COURSE loved that I got a spin-off show so we could expand this lovely story.

Hearties have seen you now a few times this season in When Calls the Heart. What do you enjoy about working on that set? How does it compare with shooting When Hope Calls which you are currently filming?

I loved working with Martin Wood on WCTH (same director as Love Locks). It was cool to join this world that had been going on for six years and find my place in it.

WHC is so much fun and I love that its a brand new town and the kids in the show are AMAZING. Definitely, my favorite part and the fans will love them too.

Hallmark viewers were recently treated to you in the film From Friend To Fiance. What was the best part about filming this movie?

The best part of From Friend to Fiance was the cast and crew for sure. We got along so well. The first day Kelly Kruger walked up to me and was like “Hi. I’m Kelly. When is your birthday?” Turns out were both Scorpios so I guess we’re destined for friendship.

Any other upcoming works you can mention?

Filming WCH and another movie Eat Drink and Be Married will be out soon 🙂

What is your advice to any other young women who are considering a career in the film/TV industry?

Be patient. What is yours will find you.

I believe you would be hard pressed to find another actress today who is filled with such overwhelming positive energy and irrepressible, infectious joy as Jocelyn. Her very essence seems to permeate the room and the screen with a buoyancy that radiates to all around her. She is the ideal ambassador for the future of young people in this sometimes cheerless world of ours, and Hallmark has scored an impressive find in partnering with her as much as they have and continue to do so. The fans, her co-stars, and the crew recognize her charismatic persona and connect with her on every level imaginable. I have no doubt that she is on her way to virtual stardom, at least within the circles that matter, but that is not even her primary objective. A quick glance through her social media posts will detail exactly where her heart is. She relishes what she does for a living, and she, in turn, uses her platform as a way to disseminate benevolence and compassion while affecting this world for good. There is no doubt in my mind that she is one of our young leaders who will proceed to have an enduring impact on this world while bringing about the kind of abiding change for which all of us desire.

If you have not seen her in any of her previous works (my Hallmark readers will want to investigate all of her past work with the network), I implore you to place them all at the top of your to-be-watched list immediately. While we await her upcoming show, When Hope Calls (available this summer on Hallmark Movies Now in the U.S.), please visit all of her links below and consider following her on some (or all) of her social media accounts. There is no doubt in my mind that Jocelyn’s career is exploding due to her obvious giftedness, effervescent persona, and humble attitude, and I, for one, couldn’t be happier that Hallmark has chosen to align themselves with her in the way that they have. Jocelyn’s star is on the “regal road” to amazing opportunities and more, and I am especially eager to view the trajectory of her career in the near and distant future. Please join me in welcoming her in every way possible, and let’s demonstrate our loyalty and gratitude to her for being the marvelous artist and human being that she is!
