Last year, I will admit that Hallmark’s Winterfest film One Winter Weekend completely overwhelmed me in the absolute best way. I simply adored all four stars, and I have done my best to follow each of their respective careers very closely since that movie premiere. When I discovered that a sequel was coming to the Hallmark Channel this year (One Winter Proposal), I worked hard to connect with those whom I had not had the opportunity to do so as of yet, and it just so happens that Dewshane Williams was one of those special people. At first, I didn’t think I had seen him in anything outside of Hallmark, but upon further examination, I realized just how wrong I was!

RH: Why/how did you decide to become an actor? What kind of training have you had to prepare you for this career?
DW: It was something I discovered as a child. I was always fascinated with the fine arts and the performing arts. I started in theatre, actually.
What was your first professional job in the business? What are your memories of that job?
It was guest-starring on a Canadian show called Flashpoint. It was an incredible story and I learned a lot.
Being Erica
I think Being Erica was one of your first significant roles. Please tell us about your time on that show and what you enjoyed about tour character.
I got the opportunity to work with Erin Karpluk and Michael Riley! They’re both legends in Canada. My character was a time-travelling doctor; it was awesome. We had a great group, and I’m still in touch with some of my cast-mates;

Defiance has been your biggest show to date. Please tell us why you think this show was so successful.
“Teamwork makes the dream work.” Grant Bowler, who played Joshua on the show, mentioned that to Me once, and I agree with that philosophy.
I just realized I DID see you on Backstage! What did you enjoy about being a part of that show?
Backstage
Exploring new characters is always fun for me. Especially when they’re roles you wouldn’t otherwise expect me to play. Playing a young principal seemed like a challenge to me, and I can appreciate a challenge.
We first saw you on Hallmark last year in One Winter Weekend. What did you know about the network before making this film?

Not much, other than people really enjoy watching Hallmark movies.
Why do you believe One Winter Weekend resonated so well with the fans? We’re you surprised that a sequel happened?

I’m not sure, but I’m glad it did. I had no expectations of a sequel, to be honest, and when I found out, I was pretty surprised for sure.
Tell us about the making of One Winter Proposal. Do you think another movie is a possibility?
We shot in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Banff National Park (Canada.) It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to. I’m not sure if there will be another film, but anything is possible.

No, nothing I can mention!
What are your favorite winter activities?
Besides skiing, I hibernate during the winter!
How have you seen things change in the industry in terms of diversity?
We’ve come a long way, but we’ve also got a long way to go. I’m optimistic.
Of course, this may be one of the most concise interviews I have had the opportunity to share on my site, but as my readers know, I consistently highlight the actors I interview in such a way to exhibit their persona in an authentic, positive fashion. In the case of Dewshane, I would venture to say that he is a man of few words who prefers to let his actions illustrate who he genuinely is. I have no doubt that in certain instances, he can probably discuss a wide variety of topics in immense detail, but in this case, it was more vital to give the requisite facts for the sake of expediency. After all, this is the first time Dewshane and I have connected, and as we all know, the life of a working actor is one that is busier than most imagine. Also, as pilot season is essentially in full swing at present and ready to thrust itself into high gear, I have no doubt that Dewshane is one who has a full plate (and then some), so to speak, especially right now. I appreciate the fact that he took a few moments out of his hectic schedule to answer a few questions, and one thing I can unequivocally state is that he is a man of his word. And for this interviewer, that speaks volumes!
If you have not had the opportunity to see him in One Winter Weekend or One Winter Proposal, I highly suggest you find out when those films are airing on the Hallmark Channel (I believe the Canadian premieres happen on the W Network this coming weekend) and make it a priority to watch these fantastic films. Dewshane has continued to work hard every step of the way in the journey of his career, and I can hardly wait to see more from this talented young man!
