His Hometown Girl by Karen Rock
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
When I was growing up, “Harlequin” always meant “trashy romance novels.” I discovered a few years ago that Harlequin had a much-expanded repertoire. I knew that their historical fiction was always hot and heavy but generally very well-written. This is the first time I have ever read a Harlequin book from their Heartwarming titles, and I was quite impressed with what I read. The book is free from sex, profanity, and it is completely appropriate for anyone who appreciates a sweet romance. I was instantly drawn into the story because I have a special place in my heart for autistic children. I am an educator, and as a music teacher, I always connected with the students from the special education program at my school. Often my class was the only place the adult in charge could leave their “charges” without supervision. And those with autism and Aspergers were always my favorites because it was one place where they could succeed.
As to the writing style and the story, it was a pretty straightforward story, and I guess we all knew how it had to end. But it never came across as sappy nor even unrealistic. This author is one I would read again in a heartbeat, and this is one of those books you can read quickly and feel so good afterwards! I highly recommend it. And even though it is not Christian per se, you will no doubt find Christian principles throughout the story.
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
