Here is something I never would have known. On this date in 1580, the Ostrog Bible was first published. And what is this? It was the first complete Slavic Bible.  This means that Christians from Russia and surrounding areas finally had a Bible in their language.  It was also published in spite of Catholic objections. After all, publishing the Bible […]

I was a Floridian for many years.  I even graduated from a college in that state.  On this date in 1539, Hernando de Soto claimed Florida for Spain.  At this point, de Soto was the governor of Cuba, and he had landed in the Tampa Bsy area towards the end of May. This is exactly what Hitler was trying to prevent.  On this date in 1945, Hitler proclaimed the Nero Decree in which German factories were to be destroyed.  This was a suppsed preventative measure since Germany was losing, an he did not want the Allies to gain control of these commodities.  Hitler wanted there to be nothing but “scorched earth” remaining […]

You may be familiar with Galileo Galilei, and on this date in 1616, he was presented with an injunction from the Spanish Inquisition.  Unfprtunately, the result of all this was that Galileo had to reverse his theory that the earth revolved around the sun.  No wonder the church is traditionally seen as backward in the field of science.  This was […]

I apologize for these being late the past couple days.  My host server has had some difficulties.  But hopefully that is getting worked out so we can proceed as normal. I had never heard of Nestorianism, but today’s feature is probably where this doctrine (heresy) originated.  On this date in 435, Nestorius, former Archbishop of Constantinople, was condemned and exiled […]
