Henry the Navigator

Here’s something I definitely did not know.  Henry the Navigator (Prince of Portugal) became administrator general in the Order of Christ on this date in 1420.  This is a position he retained until his death.  And what does this mean?  It was a source of funds throughout his lifetime as he explored various throughout Africa and the Atlantic Islands.   From what I have read, he was a very intelligent prince who financed and donated to various educational pursuits within his country.  This lets me know yet again how very little world history I know.
