This is exactly what Hitler was trying to prevent.  On this date in 1945, Hitler proclaimed the Nero Decree in which German factories were to be destroyed.  This was a suppsed preventative measure since Germany was losing, an he did not want the Allies to gain control of these commodities.  Hitler wanted there to be nothing but “scorched earth” remaining in Germany.  According to my research, “Monuments Men” deals with this story.  I have not seen the film as of yet, but I plan to.
