Today I am featuring an interview with the author, Lisa Boucher.  I want to thank her for taking the time out of her schedule to answer my questions.

  • When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?– Soon after I graduated from nursing school in 1994, out of the blue it hit me that I should start writing. Like someone whispered in my ear, it’s time to write. I started out with a small column in a local newspaper. That gig became cumbersome because at the time, I didn’t own a computer or a typewriter and I had to pay someone to type my articles. I got another nudge from the universe, or God, and he told me to get a computer and write a book. I thought I was losing it but said to myself, well God, if you want me to write a book then you need to give me a story. And, he did just that. Two months later out of the ethers, my first book was born. I attended a few night classes and learned how to use the computer. I haven’t stop writing since, although, I have written in spurts between raising twin sons and working my day job.
  • How long does it take you to write a book? It takes me anywhere from 13 months to two years. Again, if I had the luxury of writing full-time, I doubt it would take that long, but at this point reality dictates otherwise.
  • What is your work schedule like when you’re writing? I like to write in the morning for 4-5 hours then step away from it and revisit the work after dinner to either write more or revise.
  • What would you say is your interesting writing quirk? I have to have a title before I can put one word on the page. No title, no book.
  •  What do you like to do when you’re not writing? I’ve got a million things going on. For one, I’m an RN. I also make heavenly pesto and granola and recently started selling it under the name of “Simple Grace.” I sell mostly to friends and through word of mouth. I grow my own organic basil. I also have twin sons who play college football so for the last 4 years we are super busy during the fall. The boys have one more year so I know what I’ll be doing this fall! I also love to travel and went to Sicily where I found a long-lost relative.
  •  As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up? I was nuts for horses and thought I might want to be a vet for horses and cows.
  • What is your favorite genre to read and why?   I don’t have a favorite. A good story is a good story.  I’m not interested in anything horror related, and please, no vampires.
  • If you could have dinner with three people either living or dead, who would you choose and why? Jesus, because he’s well, Jesus. Michelangelo, because I admire and envy his artistic brilliance, his patience to achieve perfection, and his pioneering spirit. lastly, I would love to have dinner with Galileo. He was also brilliant and far ahead of his time. I admire that he endured imprisonment (house) in order to stay true to science and I love how he trusted his findings even when the world spurned him.
