The Christmas Eve Promise

Description Christmas Eve Promise: Time Travel Novel by Elyse Douglas

Eve and baby Colleen are traveling to Ohio for the Christmas holidays to spend time with Eve’s parents.

After a few days in Ohio, they all plan to fly to Florida in Eve’s father’s private airplane.  Patrick will meet them there after he completes exams for his forensic psychology degree.

Nothing goes as planned.  The day Patrick is to leave for Florida, he receives a shocking telephone call from one of Eve’s cousins.  Sobbing, she tells him a terrible tragedy has occurred.  It stuns him and shakes him to his heart’s core.

His life shattered, Patrick knows he has but one chance:  he must use the time travel lantern to return to the past in order to prevent the current tragedy.

But once again, the time travel lantern has a mind of its own, and Patrick is hurled back to a time where he must confront a strange, unfamiliar world and learn why the lantern transported him there.

When Patrick comes face-to-face with a mysterious, beautiful woman who looks and acts like Eve, and whose name is Eve, Patrick is haunted.

He recalls the promise he and Eve had made to each other on Christmas Eve the previous year—no matter what happens; no matter if they’re separated; no matter what time or place they find themselves in; no matter what obstacles they must face, they will always find each other, help each other, and love each other for all time.

The Christmas Eve Promise is a journey about the enduring promise of hope and the infinite, unbreakable bonds of love.

Praise Christmas Eve Series by Elyse Douglas

“The Christmas Eve Letter is a beautiful, poignant story. It is well written and will have you turning the pages eagerly.
All of the characters are well thought out, and believably written, together with the well-constructed scenery, that has you feeling as if you yourself have just stepped into the past.
The story is unique and moving. It will hold you long after you turn the last page. A perfect Christmas tale of love and hope.”-Whispering Stories

“This book is the perfect vehicle for a movie, and I can only hope that there will be more in the series. This novel is truly as close to perfection as the reader could imagine! 5 Stars!”–My Devotional Thoughts Blog and Reviews

“I enjoyed the new characters, an update on characters from the first book, and the possibility for more books.  If you enjoy time travel-themed novels you will love these books!”–StoreyBook Reviews

“I am most impressed that this book did so well as a stand-alone novel. Kudos to the author! If you are looking for a good Christmas book with time travel, give this a go!”–Carole’s Bookshelves

“I love this whole story, and I especially love Patrick and Eve’s romance and all of the adventures that they go on together. Eve is exactly my kind of character.  I still can’t stop thinking about the feeling that it gave me and the arc that the characters went on. Everyone really developed a lot in this story and it was so rewarding as a long-time reader to watch that happen. It feels like every new book in this series just keeps getting better and better and I love these characters more and more. Every time a new one comes out I feel like a kid on Christmas morning.
The Christmas Eve Secret is my favorite in the series so far, but if you have not read the first two books I would recommend doing that as soon as possible! If you enjoy romance, time travel, mystery and great writing, I promise that you won’t regret dipping a toe into this series.”–Cuzinlogic

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

First of all, this series is one that has been near and dear to my heart for some time. I do not typically enjoy time travel books, but this one is the exception to the rule. I know that every time I pick up one of these books, I will find romance, Christmas celebrations, historical themes, and basically family-friendly tales. There are some minimal views of a pretty tame bedroom scene, and the language in the book is not overly shocking. But other than that, the reader will find nothing potentially offensive.

What I love about this book is that the romance is still there as well as the mystery and intrigue. The conclusion of the book is never in question, but what an entertaining ride! The reader never knows from one page to the next what twists and turns the story will take, and no matter what, we are always cheering on the lovers. No loose ends, and the story is a perfect escape into a world when times were simpler. The struggles of 2020 take a backseat to this charming story and fun read!

GUEST POST (FROM THE AUTHOR)

How we market our books – by Elyse Douglas

In the beginning, facing the world of book marketing with little knowledge or understanding was a bit like facing a Tyrannosaurus rex in the movie Jurassic Park.

We quickly learned that you can’t rely on friends and family to read, never mind help publicize or market, your books. Everyone is so busy trying to keep track of the millions of details in their own lives that they can’t remember to tell their friends that they should read this or that book, whose title they may or may not remember, even if they loved it. They might remember your name, but if you’re writing under a pseudonym, then forget it.

As Groucho Marx once said, “From the moment I picked up your book until I laid it down, I was convulsed with laughter. Someday I intend reading it.”

So, like many other authors, we dove into the specialized world of marketing self-published books. We read as many articles as we could find, and we even took an on-line course or two. The first thing we did, of course, was create a website, an author’s page on Amazon, and an author’s Facebook page. Then, we explored and used Amazon’s marketing platforms; we experimented with Facebook ads; we paid for book tours; we applied to have our books included on Book Bub offerings; and we started our own e-mail marketing list.

What has boosted our sales the most so far is having an email list, and several of our books accepted and featured by BookBub. After three days on BookBub, sales of The Christmas Eve Letter were so high that we entered the coveted realm of “Best-selling Author” on Amazon. Being featured on BookBub also expanded our readership tremendously and we now have devoted readers in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and other English-speaking countries, as well as Poland, Italy and, yes, even Japan.

After we published the second “Christmas Eve” novel (The Christmas Eve Daughter) we realized that marketing books in a series is much easier than marketing stand-alone books because you can create ads that sell both books at once, and you can appeal to readers who loved the first book. And, it just so happened that we LOVED writing time travel romance stories with Eve and Patrick Gantly. For this reason, we continued the series with The Christmas Eve Secret and now, The Christmas Eve Promise.

We initially had success marketing our books on Amazon, but their marketing platforms are not for the faint-hearted. They’re constantly testing and modifying their bots, so they remain a challenge for book marketing. (That’s another article, and then some.)

Many marketers recommend email marketing, that is, that writers have their own email list so that when they publish a new book, they can notify readers of its arrival. As a result, we have used a variety of techniques to build our mailing list. Currently, we are writing a new time travel novel which we will offer for free to people who join our mailing list. We’re hoping to add thousands to our list with this offer and expand marketing into other areas, such as book deals with local and independent book stores. Check our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/elyse.authorsdouglas/) for more details. Also, if you’d like to subscribe to our email list, here is the link. https://www.facebook.com/elyse.authorsdouglas/

In the end, book marketing is an exploring, creative act. As Albert Einstein said, “Creativity is intelligence having fun.”
