When chefs Charly and Cliff Harding divorce, she gets custody of their upscale restaurant and its namesake, Felix, the cat.  He gets custody of their dog, Oscar.  What they both still have custody of is each other’s heart. But they seem to be the only two people in the small ski resort town of Snow Lake, Nevada, that don’t know it.

When Cliff opens his own restaurant in direct competition with Charly, bad things start to happen. Death threats, accidents, and murder are now on the menu. Their ‘if-you-can’t-take-the-heat-then-get-out-of-the-kitchen’ battles are backfiring, and regrets consume the two of them. But can they find their way back to each other?  Or is it too late? Because they just might spend the rest of their lives in prison unjustly accused of killing someone. Or can love triumph over even murder?

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

First of all, I would like to dub this book as a definite pick for the next Hallmark mystery film. I adored the fact this although this is a cozy mystery, it is decidedly different from so many I have been reading. While there are a few cases of “Oh My G–” in the book, that is the only thing in this book that could be potentially offensive to a reader. And if Hallmark were to develop this into a film, they would have no problem adapting it. Cozy mystery readers will fall in love with the pacing, the characters, and the mystery. Glad to see this is the first in the series, and I can only hope there will be more to come.

Some of the things I truly appreciated were the following. A divorced couple comprise the leading couple. The point of view continuously switches back and forth between these two characters. The murder that is the focus of the novel does not happen until well into the book. In fact, I was wondering for a while if this was a murder mystery. Although it deals with food and restaurants, this one dealt with a little different aspect of those. And the best part is that I believe the follow-up books in the series are going to continue to be refreshing and fun. I highly recommend this series to all mystery aficionados.
