I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

First of all, this is a clean, Christian romance. You will find nothing offensive if you choose to read and enjoy this romance. Additionally, even though it is Christian, it is not preachy in any way. It is more what I would call “faith-inspired” as opposed to “faith-based.” This does not diminish the message in any way; it merely means that the author has done an exceptional job of weaving a Christian worldview into the overall framework of the story.

This is the first book I have read in this series, and while sometimes I felt like I was missing a couple things here and there, for the most part, readers should have no trouble jumping into this book and becoming familiar with all of the characters and their respective storylines. I never struggled to understand what was going on in the book, so it can definitely be read as a standalone book. No doubt, a richer experience awaits those who have read the first two books in the series.

Something that I did not expect in the book was actually the strongest part of the story and writing for me. I knew this was a Christian romance, but I did not expect the mystery and suspense that was so cleverly woven into the story. In fact, I wasn’t as intrigued by the romance as I was the thrilling aspect of this mystery. I don’t know if Becky Wade has ever considered writing a mystery/thriller series, but I believe she has the writing chops to accomplish just that.

The romance aspects were perfectly acceptable, but maybe I wasn’t as invested because I had not read the other two books in the series. Sometimes, the romance lacked a bit of authenticity for me, and I would have preferred a romance story that was less predictable. The mystery portion was so well-done, and I supposed I expected a few surprises with the romance that just weren’t there. Nevertheless, if you want to read something that is Christian, sweet, and a little bit out of the ordinary for the romance genre, this book will definitely fit the bill!
