To bark or not to bark . . .

Professional pet sitter Daphne Templeton loves the holidays in Sylvan Creek, Pennsylvania. And nothing gets her into the spirit more than the town’s annual Bark the Halls Ball. The whole community will be there to wag their tails, especially this year’s special guest—Celeste “CeeCee” French, founder of a national chain of pet care franchises, who’s returning home to announce plans for a bright new flagship store.

But not everyone’s celebrating CeeCee’s homecoming. Daphne’s friend Moxie Bloom, owner of Spa and Paw, a unique salon for people and their pets, has plenty to growl about. So when CeeCee is found face down under Sylvan Creek’s town Christmas tree, stabbed with a distinctive pair of professional-grade pet shears, suspicion lands squarely on Moxie. Despite Daphne’s promises to Detective Jonathan Black, she quickly reprises her role as amateur sleuth. Ably assisted by her basset hound sidekick, Socrates, she must hurry to prove her friend’s innocence before a killer barks again . . .

Includes recipes for homemade pet treats!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated in any way and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

Could you ask for a better cozy mystery? Dogs, two murders, an amateur sleuth…did I mention dogs?? Readers who love mysteries will love this one. There is nothing problematic in this book. No profanity, no gratuitous violence–yes, there are some murders and whodunits, but there is also some romance and plenty of dog shenanigans.

I admit I could not solve the crime. It did take me a little while to get into the book; it is the fourth in the series after all. I was only going to give it a four-star rating, but before long, the author captured my interest, and I was taken with every part of the book. I simply adored the characters. And high school scandals that come back to haunt people years later…talk about amazing!

The writing style of this book is simply ideal. The book may appear long, but it is an easy read that draws the reader in unlike a lot of current mysteries I’ve read. I didn’t find myself concentrating on the time or how much I read. I wanted to finish this story and find out who the murderer was. I highly recommend this mystery book, and I think i may have to check out the rest of the series.
