Sunsets at Seaside
(Sweet with Heat: Seaside Summers #4)
by Addison Cole
Sweet Contemporary Romance

Paperback & ebook, 308 pages

August 23rd 2017

Sweet with Heat: Seaside Summers features a group of fun, flirty, and emotional friends who gather each summer at their Cape Cod cottages. They’re sassy, flawed, and so easy to relate to, you’ll be begging to enter their circle of friends!

Sunsets at Seaside by Addison Cole is the sweet edition of New York Times bestselling author Melissa Foster’s steamy romance novel Seaside Sunsets. The stories and characters remain the same, and convey all of the passion you expect between two people in love, without any explicit scenes or harsh language.

In SUNSETS at SEASIDE…
Jessica Ayers has lived a sheltered life with little more than cello lessons and practices taking up her day. Now a member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, she escapes the prim and proper symphony to vacation in the Seaside community in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, to determine if she is living life to the fullest or missing it altogether.

For the first time since developing the second largest search engine in the world, billionaire Jamie Reed is taking the summer off. He plans to work from the Cape and spend time with his elderly grandmother—and falling in love is not in his plans.

From the moment Jamie and Jessica meet, the attraction is white-hot. Once-overly-focused Jamie can think of little else than sweet, smart, and alluring Jessica, and Jessica discovers a side of herself she never knew existed. But when Jamie’s business encounters trouble and his attorney and best friend intervenes, he proves that the brown-haired beauty is too distracting for Jamie. To make matters worse, it appears that Jessica might not be who she says she is, turning Jamie’s life—and his heart—upside down. In a world where personal information is always one click away, Jamie must decide if he should trust his heart or watch the woman he loves walk away.

My rating: 4 of 5 starsI was sent a copy of this book for the purposes of review. I was not financially compensated and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

First of all, I am familiar with these “sweet with heat” books as the author herself discussed her plans with me, and while I didn’t get an early look at this particular book, I was familiar with what she was attempting to do. Therefore, when this book came across my virtual desk, I knew I wanted to review it. I know that some are concerned about the fact that there are sexual innuendoes and some descriptive language regarding the physical relationship between this couple, but we are never officially invited into the bedroom, and much of what is written is no more than what might be seen in a “PG” film or Lifetime Movie. There are no issues with profanity, and while morals are sometimes a little loose, for a romance that is advertised as “sweet with heat,” this is par for the course.

In the reading of this book, I found the heroine, Jessica, delightful and relatable. Being a musician myself and one with little experience with men in general, I could relate to much of her experience. And the fact that she wanted to step outside her comfort zone and try new things–I was right there with her, and I applauded her attempts.

In the role of romantic hero, Jamie is the perfect one for the job. He is experienced (most men in romance novels often have more experience than their female counterparts), but this time, Jessica may be the one who finally causes him to think of making a true commitment. He is flawed, but so is Jessica, and together, they seem to make sweet music together (pun intended).

I won’t ruin the story for you, but this is typical romantic fare with the masterful writing of Addison Cole. It is very easy to see why her books are so well-received. She writes with passion and description that often makes things a bit hot and heavy. Addison has a way of writing that does ignite a bit of heat beneath the sleeping female hormones.

My only complaint with the book is that I wish Jessica and Jamie could have done things in the reverse order. By that, I mean this. In romance novels as a whole (not just Addison’s), I sometimes grow weary of the physical attraction being overemphasized. The couple has nights of passion and then decide it is time to discuss things to see if there is a future between them. I would much prefer the couple talking first and leading up to the physical relationship a bit more slowly. I realize this is a personal preference of mine, and it probably has to do with the way I am wired. It just bothers me that the couples in romance novels (and in films and TV) often get physical before really getting to know each other. Maybe that’s just the way society has changed, and I’m probably just too old-fashioned. But I would prefer a romance that began with getting to know the person more before getting those hormones too involved.

However, in spite of that, this is a romance novel that I definitely recommend to those who want to disappear into a romantic story with passion, humor, and relatable characters.
