Interview With Actor Rhys Matthew Bond, “Good Witch”

Last year, during season two of Hallmark’s original series Good Witch, I had the joy and honor of interviewing the young man who plays Nick, Rhys Matthew Bond. This season, I contacted this skilled young actor yet again, and he enthusiastically agreed to answer a few more questions about his role in the series, other projects with which he has been involved, and a bit about his outlook on education and the industry.

RH: First of all, congratulations on season three of Good Witch.  Without spoiling the story, what can we expect from Nick this season?

RMB: Nick is continuing to mature and make better decisions as he goes along. He enters the dating world this season and learns a thing or two.

Goodies {fans of Good Witch} want to know if a romance will ever happen between Nick and Grace. While I don’t want any spoilers, what do you think Nick thinks about Grace? Why do you think he does not appear to be pursuing a relationship with Grace, but he’s going after Courtney instead?

I think Nick sees Grace as a close friend, more like a sister and brother relationship, so he looks at her as family, especially now that their parents are dating. Courtney, on the other hand, is a new girl at school and he likes her.

If there is a season four, what would you hope for Nick’s storyline?

If there season four, I would like to see Nick continuing to mature with some learning curves along the way.

What is your off-screen relationship like with the cast/crew? When you’re not filming and you have some downtime on set, who do you tend to hang out with?

The Good Witch set is like one big family. We all hang together between scenes, and we always have a good laugh.

In between seasons, Hallmark audiences got to see you in the movie Love At First Glance.  How was it similar/different to filming Good Witch?

Every project is different; it is always a great experience. You meet new people, film in different locations, and appreciate how lucky you are.

I know there was talk of season two of Ties That Bind. While nothing has been announced, do you think this is still possible?

There were talks of Ties That Bind maybe having a season two, but so far, I did not hear anything regarding a renewal. But it is always a possibility.

How have you been able to keep up with your schoolwork while doing all this filming over the past several years? Has it been challenging to keep up?

School has definitely been tricky. I had to take some of my courses online as I was on set more than in school. I was majoring in Drama at a Fine Arts school at the time, and even though I was up-to-date with all my school work, they informed  me that they do not support kids who pursue a career while they are still at school. Therefore, I had to give it up or find myself another school. So I did find another school, and worked even harder. I graduated last summer.

What has been the most challenging thing about being a young person and growing up in the business?  What’s the best thing about it?

I think there are challenges in everything we do in life; otherwise, no one will learn anything. For me, the most important thing is to stay humble, level-headed, and above all, be grateful. There is nothing greater than doing what you love the most.

Any other upcoming works you can mention?

I can’t say anything about it so stay tuned.

Who are the top five people that you’d like to work with one day?

The top five  people that I would love to work with are Robert De Niro, Tom Hardy, Denzel Washington, Shia Labeouf, and Leonardo Dicaprio.

I find Rhys to be one of those young people who is grounded, intelligent, and mature beyond his years. While he is only beginning his journey as an adult in an industry that is sometimes “dog-eat-dog,” he is a positive, shining light who continues to focus on what is wholesome and good in this all-too-often dark world of ours. He doesn’t get caught up in the politics of getting ahead nor ridiculous stunts to land his name in the tabloids. Instead, Rhys spends his time honing his craft, associating with exemplary people in the business, and portraying characters that genuinely connect with and inspire his audiences. He has maintained his high ideals, and when met with challenges, he deciphers a way to overcome them in order to accomplish his dreams. As one of the truly remarkable young men in the business, I would invite everyone to watch him Sunday nights on the Hallmark Channel as he continues to depict Grace’s friend, Nick, with an authenticity that not all teens possess. Furthermore, consider following him at all the links below so that when he does make his next significant announcement, you will be certain not to miss it!

I haven’t seen this show, but I do recognize the young actor you interviewed. Sounds like it would be worth my time to watch. I’ll have to check the schedules on cable and Netflix to see if I can find it.

Linda thanks I think you can find past seasons of Good Witch on Netflix if I remember correctly.
