Do you get a large amount of enjoyment out of playing an instrument with other people that you know? Does playing music give you an amazing feeling that no other activity can give to you? If this is the case, it would be in your best interests to think about pursuing a career as a professional musician. There is no question that this is a difficult career path. However, there will be great rewards for you if you succeed. It will be necessary for you to put in many hours of practice in order for you to become great at playing your instrument. A large amount of practice will be required for you to reach a point where you will be able to earn a living. It is important for you to understand that even legendary musicians needed to practice before they became great. These people also had to struggle at the start. You must be willing to do the same. This should not scare you into giving up your dreams of becoming a musician. On the contrary, you should use it as motivation. The following things will need to be done by you in order to get your career as a professional musician off the ground.

1. Find the instrument that is right for you.

There are certainly many instruments to choose from. You probably have a few preferences. However, you may discover that you do not have the ability to play certain instruments. Some people have a natural ability for specific instruments. You need to discover the instrument that you were born to play. This will not happen overnight. Just remain patient and do not get upset if you find yourself struggling to find an instrument that is a perfect fit for your abilities. The process of selecting an instrument is a crucial one. Therefore, you must not be in a hurry. Take your time and make the right choice. This will benefit you greatly down the road.

2. Take lessons from an experienced musician.

It is very rare for a person to become a great musician without the instruction of a person who has already mastered the instrument. Yes, some people are able to learn by watching videos and playing by themselves. However, this is very rare. You should seek out a person who has been teaching people how to play that particular instrument for many years. You need to have someone tell you when you are making a mistake so you can correct it. It is essential that you schedule lessons on a regular basis. Twice each week would be a good start. Never let too much time elapse between lessons.

3. Join a band.

Playing with other people will make you a better musician. Look for ads online or around your town for bands looking for new members.

4. Hire the right person to manage your band.

Having good management is critical in the music business. You need to be sure an experienced manager like Coran Capshaw is handling all of your affairs. Capshaw has helped many music stars reach the top of the industry. You need to be able to find a manager who you can trust. Preferably, this person will have several other successful musicians as clients.

I’m happy just singing with my chorus. Don’t want to be famous or make a living with my music.
