If you haven’t heard of cornhole yet, you are in for a treat. This is a fun-filled game that can be enjoyed by adults and kids. There are several different stories as to the origins of this game but it is definitely becoming a popular pastime. There is actually an organization called the American Cornhole Association that exists for the purpose of promoting the game. Several places across the country sponsor cornhole tournaments from the local level right up to the national level.

The Cornhole Board

Most people choose regulation cornhole boards for the game. The board must be rectangular half-inch plywood that is 24-inches by 48-inches. The back must be a foot off the ground and the front can be from 2 1/2-inches to 4-inches. A hole that is six-inches in diameter is located one foot from the sides of the board and 9-inches from the top of the board.

Although there are plastic cornhole boards, wood is preferred. The bags will bounce better on a wood surface and when painted, they get just the right amount of slide. Boards can be found in just about any design. They are even available in plain wood so you can decorate them to your own liking. Personalize them with your favorite sports team, a company logo, or the flag for a patriotic look. An example of one place to find the cornhole boards is
Custom Corntoss.

This Game is Being Played Everywhere

A cornhole set makes the perfect gift for adults and kids. It is easy to carry along and takes up only a minimum of space so it can be played anywhere. It is perfect for getting together with family or friends, barbecues, tailgate parties, or a friendly game in the backyard on a lazy Sunday afternoon. The game is simple to play and the competition makes it fun.

The sets are affordable and the boards will last for a long time. The bags generally need replacing every few years. Several places across the country sponsor cornhole tournaments from the local level right up to the national level. The American Cornhole Association lists tournaments that meet their official approval. Many offer nice prizes for the winners.

The tournaments are for more seasoned players so if you are considering trying your hand at one, you better practice. They are often organized for charity events as well. This is a good place to practice and get some insights into the strategies of others.

We play cornhole all the time in the summer. It is part of Sunday grilling days. It is so much fun and everyone can play.
