I am a child of the 1980’s, and while I may have ignored the vast majority of the music from this era, one artist that always captured my attention was Amy Grant. She made gospel music cool, and even as her career progressed, I never forgot some of her early works. And Amy Grant Christmas music was always some of the best out there!

I had the wonderful opportunity to review Amy Grant’s newest Christmas album Tennessee Christmas. Rather than being a rehash of her older works, this is a new, intimate look at a family Christmas with Amy Grant. She sings songs that are special to her for a variety of reasons, and she has even invited her husband, Vince Gill, and her children to sing with her. I found the album enchanting and refreshing in a world of over-produced, upbeat Christmas music that we often hear today.

In this album, Amy reminds us of why the holidays are so special. Of corse, as Christians, we celebrate the birth of Christ, but let’s be honest. It’s so much more than that. It’s special memories, traditions, and the family being together. Maybe she could have included more sacred music on the album, but that was not her premise. Her music embodies the spirit of family at Christmas time, and for a moment, we get a brief glimpse into her family celebration.
