Keeping Kids Entertained

Sometimes children become so interested in electronic toys and video games that they miss out on physical exercise. Children who watch television and play electronics instead of interacting with other children miss out on learning valuable social skills. Teaching children to play together in group activities can be a great way to teach them how to interact with others and use manners.

Rainy Day Activities
If the weather is unpleasant, then children may become bored. It may be tempting to let children watch television all day, but there are other activities that may be better. You can keep kids entertained during a rainy day with a variety of hobbies. For example, letting children work together to solve puzzles can give them a bit of a challenge. Kids also enjoy playing board games. Consider keeping a cabinet of puzzles and games available for children to play with. These activities will encourage children to use imaginative skills and think critically.

Outdoor Games
Children often seem to have endless amounts of energy. Playing outside can be a fun way for children to get rid of this extra energy so that they can focus on schoolwork and other tasks. Children may enjoy playing dodgeball or basketball outdoors on a sunny day. You can use sidewalk chalk to teach children hopscotch, and jumping rope can be another fun activity.

If you are entertaining a group of several children, then you may be able to organize them into teams to play baseball or kickball. Other activities, such as a gaga ball pit, can also teach children how to interact with each other. These games give children chances to work with a team and compete against each other.

It is important to help children channel their energy into appropriate activities. If children focus on their schoolwork for too long without a break, then they may become inattentive and restless. Giving children a chance to run and play can help their behavior. Letting them play together on teams teaches important skills. Try to make sure that children frequently have chances to take a break from routine and use creativity.

I have my grandchildren with me all the time and I keep them entertained with lots of craft, gardening and baking fun. They like being with me and learning new skills and ideas. At night, when I am tired, is when I put on the TV or a good movie for them to watch. During the daytime..I am all they have.
