On this day in 1964 (from what I can tell though there is some debate), the GI Joe toy was first created.  Hasboro started this in response to the Barbie doll market, and the original toy was called “Action Man.”  The word “doll” was never used in relation to this toy (after all, boys didn’t play with “dolls”).

1 Corinthians 16:13-14 ESV

Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.

(This Day in History February 9, 1964) I can remember my brother’s playing with the original GI Joe dolls when they were younger. The dolls were much bigger then the smaller ones that they sell now days. They also had good sized remote controlled tanks too. (was hours of fun) Me, I had my play vanity set to play with and a few years later my first Easy Bake Oven. (was not the best baker back then either 🙂

My adult boys would tell you that GI JOE gave the courage to “grow up”.

My brothers had GI JOE toys. They would play for hours. Being a girl I was not allowed!
