Rescue My Heart by Jean C. Joachim

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

At this point in my lifetime, I have read an incredible amount of contemporary romance books, and this book is exactly what would be expected from this genre. Now that does not mean it’s horrible. It actually does add a few refreshing elements, and for those who enjoy a quick romance, this is perfect.

First, content advisory. There is a bit of superfluous profanity throughout the book, and you will also find some very steamy sex scenes. It is more or less what you would expect from this genre, and although I could have done without this, neither of these elements figure into the rating of the book.

On the plus side, I adored the fact that the protagonist rescued pugs and fell in love with a veterinarian. I would have quite happily have read more about both of these. I love animal books, and if the book would have focused on the pugs more directly and/or the animals coming to see the vet, I would have reveled in that. I realize that is not the main idea of this book, but this is just a personal preference.

For me, this book was a little too predictable. Yes, it’s sweet, nice, and safe. The characters are typically believable, but there were virtually no surprises. In addition to this, I felt that the focus of love was on the physical. In this day and age, far too much emphasis is placed on the physical/sexual aspect of a relationship. I would have preferred to have seen more non-physical interactions between the couples. But that is something I always crave and appreciate when included in romance novels. I hope that in the next book, this author steps out a bit more and make the work more unique and separate from others in this genre.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

I would just love the fact that she rescued pugs and fell in love with a vet second factor. lol My daughter had a pug we lost almost 2 years ago. Thank you for the review. I don’t think I’d like the bad language so much.
