Powerful Parenting Principles from the Creator of Families

(Focus on the Family/Tyndale) – Does your family need a five-star general at the helm? A psychologist? A referee? Ken Blanchard, best-selling co-author of The One Minute Manager and Lead Like Jesus, points to a better role model: the Son of God. Joined by veteran parents and authors Phil Hodges and Tricia Goyer, renowned business mentor Blanchard shows how every family member benefits when parents take the reins as servant-leaders. Moms and dads will see themselves in a whole new light—as life-changers who get their example, strength, and joy from following Jesus at home. This user-friendly book’s practical principles and personal stories mark the path to a truly Christ-centered family, where integrity, love, grace, self-sacrifice, and forgiveness make all the difference.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I have to admit I was expecting a lot from this book. I am familiar with one of the co-writers, Tricia Goyer–she is always an amazing author. I was expecting a lot of Christian principles and Bible verses, and I will say that there was a lot of that. Plenty of practical advice was included, and possibly if you have never read a Christian leadership/family book, this may be a good one for you.

My biggest problem with this book is that it was essentially a Christian version of so many books out there. Bible verses were there, but not included nearly as much as I would like. There were plenty of stories, but all too often I felt like I was reading a secular book with moral principles. I know that the premise was to lead your family like Jesus, but I didn’t see the Biblical correlation as much as I desired. For me, this was a well-written book, but it did not meet the needs that I had. You may have a different experience as mine is merely a personal opinion.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
