“One Christmas Eve” Movie Review

Anne Heche plays Nell Blakemore, a newly‐single mom who wants this Christmas to be extra‐special for her two kids. It turns out to be special, indeed, but it’s not what she had in mind. Everything that can go wrong does go wrong. Chaos reigns in this entertaining comedy, and the notion of `family’ takes on a whole new meaning.

Also stars Kevin Daniels, Carlos Gomez, Griffin Kane, Ali Skovbye, and Brian Tee.

My review:

As far as I know, I have not seen these actors from this film in any other works, but it is possible I have forgotten. However, after seeing this entertaining film, I am sure I will never forget them.  As far as Christmas movies go, this one in nonstop laughter and fun for the entire family.

one christmasFrom the beginning of the film, I was smitten.  From one mishap to another, I was enjoying this ride so much I never wanted it to end. There were incredible family dynamics and zany happenings–I could barely keep up!

one christmas 3Just when I thought things couldn’t get any crazier, they did.  The writer of this story is to be highly commended. There was never a dull moment, and you can never go wrong with a puppy leading the action.

one christmasThis little guy definitely stole the show. He was so adorable and into everything imaginable and unimaginable. His scenes were by far my favorites.  There is nothing like a dog at Christmas, and this movie proves that truth.  And when this puppy is as cute as this one, you can’t help but agree.

one christmas 7However, in order to have a Christmas movie with families and a puppy, it requires a strong set of actors. And this cast fulfills that to a fault. The dynamics between the family members (and those outside that family) was so realistic I thought I was witnessing an actual family.   The interactions were authentic, and the pitfalls were absolutely hilarious.

one christmasThe truly mesmerizing thing is that in spite of the zany film, the real meaning of Christmas and family shines through. The family draws closer together, and the dog just makes that bond stronger.  By the end of the film, my heart was warm, and my smile was genuine and broad.  This movie definitely has something for everyone in the family.  Hopefully, you will find that just like me, that this needs to become a new part of your yearly family tradition.

Hm, this is interesting. My mom and I actually were not huge fans of this movie 🙁 My mom is harder to please than I am, but I have yet to cross paths with a Hallmark Christmas movie that I hated. I LIVE for Christmas movies!! And I really thought I was going to LOVE this one. While there were definitely scenes I enjoyed, and the overall concept was sweet, there was just…SOMETHING. I’m not sure what that something was, though. It was by no means a BAD movie; I enjoyed it a reasonable amount. But I’m not sure that I would sit through it again. I have nothing against the actors/acting or anything. I don’t know…it just sort of missed the mark in my book somehow. Does that make sense? 🙁 I’m glad that you guys enjoyed it!! 🙂

Natalie what you said makes perfect sense. I understand completely. Not every book captures the attention of everyone.

Lisa you are exactly right. She was quite the little diva with a voice to match.
