So this happened during my lifetime, but I was only 3 at the time. So forgive me for not knowing!  But on this date in 1977, the Golden Dragon massacre happened in the restaurant featured in this photo in San Francisco.  There was much unrest amongst the Asian community in the 1970’s, and this particular event occurred due to rival gang issues.  Five members of the Joe Boys were attempting to kill their rivals, the Wah Ching.  Evidently, the plan was supposed to be that the gang members were to fire a warning shot so that innocents could seek cover.  Unfortunately, that did not occur.  There were around 100 people in the restaurant at the time of the shooting.  Five people were killed, and eleven more were wounded.  Ironically, none of those who were hit were members of the gang.
