When Shmack Happens: The Making of a Spiritual Champion by Amber Neben

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

At the outset, let me say that this book is one of the best Christian non-fiction books I have ever read. The author is to be commended for so many things, including the constant referencing of Scripture. Yes, I have read several Christian non-fiction books that rely more on experience than what the Bible says. I believe experience does have a degree of viability, and Amber Neben does discuss real life examples to demonstrate her various points. However, she further backs them up with Scriptural examples. She actually studied and drew inspiration from the patriarchs and the apostles. She made parallels that even I would have considered.

I am not a sports person, but this book spoke to me. I highly recommend the book. I essentially read it in a matter of a couple of hours, and the chapters were short an impactful enough to capture my interest and attention. As a result of this book, God confirmed many things I thought He may have been saying to me. I personally thank the author for following God’s leading to write this book. Her unwavering faith through a myriad of adversities inspired me beyond my wildest dreams.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
