Many homeowners don’t want to have to replace their windows until they are broken. However, there are a number of other reasons that it may be good to install new ones. Here are some things that you will want to take into consideration.

Increase Home Value

You will want to also consider installing new windows to increase the value of your home. The National Association of Realtors states installing a $100 window will typically boost your home value by $97. However, the actual return could be even higher. Houses that are in poor condition may actually benefit more.

You will want to do a cost-benefit analysis before deciding to install new windows. It may not be worthwhile if you are planning on selling the house right away, because the cost of installation won’t be totally offset by the increased home value. However, the improvement will almost always pay off if you are going to be holding onto your house for a while. You can also reduce your energy bill before selling, so it will be well worth the investment if you don’t plan to sell for at least a couple of years.

Shave Energy Costs

More heat is transferred through your windows and doors than any other part of your house. You will want to replace them if they aren’t energy efficient.

You should inspect your windows carefully to see if they are a source of energy loss. One thing that you may want to try is lighting incense inside next to them on a slightly windy day. If the incense is blowing quickly, then that means that your window has a large draft. This means that you are probably losing a lot of heat, so you will want to consider replacing your windows to cut your energy bill.

Reduce Outdoor Noise

You may also want to consider replacing your windows if outdoor noise is disrupting your household. Many windows are designed to be sound proof, which will make it much easier to cope with barking dogs and rowdy neighbors.

Try looking for double pane windows if you are trying to reduce noise in your house. Many homeowners have found that this was the single best way to reduce noise problems.

Improving Aesthetics

There are a number of practical reasons to consider replacing your windows. However, you may just want to replace them because they are no longer pleasant to look at.

Old windows tend to fade over time, especially in areas that are exposed to heavy winds, precipitation and bright sunlight. You will need to pay close attention to your windows over time and replace them as needed.
