I honestly was unaware of this disaster, and it is eerie to see the footage in the video. On this date in 1945, a B-25 bomber was headed to Newark. Unfortunately, the weather was very foggy, and the pilot struggled to see anything in the zero visibility sky. His plane crashed into the Empire State Building, the highest building in the world at that time. His plane struck the 79th floor. Three men died on the plane, and eleven in the building died. I guess we can be glad that it was a Saturday morning–it might have been worse if it had been a normal weekday. Sadly, this disaster is overshadowed by the carnage of 9/11. I would like to think that something like this will never happen again, but I’m not naive enough to believe that. I believe that one day in the near future, 9/11 will be dwarfed by a worse disaster. I honestly hope I’m wrong.
