Rhyme to Read is a highly effective program for beginning readers. The program emphasizes word families (e.g., cat, rat, sat) which are color-coded to assist children in discriminating the different patterns. The only prerequisites are the recognition of letters and knowledge of consonant letter-sound connections. Rhyme to Read enables children to feel confident as they enter the world of reading.
Emilee at Pea of Sweetness uses Rhyme to Read with their three children – their preschooler just recently introduced to reading and their 6 and 8-year-old who are both homeschooled in the 2nd grade level except in reading. This sounds like the perfect thing for this summer or any time. Quite seriously, I didn’t have this program available to me when my daughter was just getting interested in reading. Thankfully she had a great teacher that inspired her to read, but this would be ideal in this day and age!
