A scene they won't forget

My mom does not remember today’s feaure, and I was not quite four years old when this happened.  On this date in 1979, American Airlines Flight 191 crashed during take-off at Chicago O’Hare airport.  As the plane was taking off, engine one failed and seperated from the plane, and the plane crashed into a nearby storage hangar.  All 271 passengers and crew were instantly killed, and two workers on the ground were also killed.  Of the bodies found, only about a dozen were intact.  Most of the bodies were torn apart.  It was a mechanical failure, and DC-10’s were certainly looked upon with more distaste because of this accident (two other accidents had occurred previously with this plane type in recent memory).  This crash has the unfortunate distinction of having the highest single plane death toll in U.S. aviation history.
