A boy I worked with joined the air force and when he finished basic training training he came by our work to visit us. I didn’t even recognize him,The boy who had left months before had come back a man. We are all so proud of him.

My husband Will has served in all the wars since Vietnam. He is a kind, gentle, retired Navy Seal and the Navy helped him become the amazing man he is today.

I come from a military family. My grandfather’s served, my dad, and my sister and I served. The one thing I have found about all of my friends, family and spouse- the military makes for loyal and responsible individuals. They are tidy, polite and reliable.

I think they are very brave.

It’s one of the greatest sacrifices an American and his family can make to keep our country safe and free.

My dad was in the army for 20+ years and although it can be tough, I do think kids learn to be strong and adapt. Wives have it hard caring for the family as a whole and traveling to places where English is not spoken. I was born in Germany and my mom learned to speak German fluently.

My father wanted to go into the service in WWII but he was too young so he reinvented his birthdate so he would be old enough. They never checked and he went in the army. Til his death, I celebrated the new birthday because it was easier for me to remember. That’s the one I knew when I was young, before I knew the story.

My DIL’s brother is a Marine, too.
