Is Whole Structure Treatment the Best Way to Fight Termites?

termiteTermites are one of the most common problems that homeowners need to deal with. Chris Morris, a real estate broker in the San Francisco Bay Area, said that at approximately three quarters of the properties in his region are affected by termites. Most of the infestations are pretty small, but some can be really serious. Homeowners will need to address termite problems as soon as they learn about them. Whole structure treatments are an effective way to kill termites, but is this the right solution for you?

What Are Whole Structure Treatments?

Whole structure treatments rely on fumigation to kill termites. The exterminator will need to seal off the entire house and fill it with a poisonous gas. The gas will seep into the cracks in the house to kill the termites. Many real estate experts near Morris insist on using San Francisco’s premier termite control experts to deal with these infestations.

Some exterminators also use local treatments to kill termites. However, whole structure treatments have been generally shown to be more effective for larger infestations.

Should You Use a Whole Structure or Localized Treatment?

There are a number of factors that you need to take into consideration before deciding how to fight termites. Here are some of the things that you need to be aware of:

Effectiveness

Localized treatments involve coating a part of the house with a chemical that will kill termites that come into contact with it. This means that it isn’t the best way to kill termites that are scattered throughout the house.

On the other hand, whole structure treatments permeate throughout the entire house. This means that they are the most effective way to deal with serious infestations.

Need for Precaution

Whole structure treatments are very effective ways to kill termites. However, you need to also understand the way that they work. They aren’t as dangerous as people think, but you will still be inconvenienced for a couple of days. This means that you will need to make sure that you cover everything that you own, remove food from the house and not allow anyone in the house for a couple of days.

If you aren’t willing to deal with these issues, then you may want to use a localized treatment instead. It won’t be as much of an inconvenience.

Cost of Treatment

You will also need to consider the cost of the treatment before paying for it. Since whole structure treatments cover the entire house, they tend to be more expensive than using a localized treatment on a small part of your home. However, they are more cost efficient if the infestation has affected the whole residence. You will need to know the scope of the problem before paying for a treatment.
