The Importance of Fashion and Style

For a good share of my life, fashion was something that really didn’t mean much to me.  I loved old-fashioned clothing instead of the modern garb that my friends were wearing.  Sure, it made me stand out, but I felt like I was being an individual and not going with the crowd.  Interestingly enough, I was sporting long skirts long before they were in vogue (at least in the late 20th century).

As I have gotten older, I have become more fashion-conscious while still maintaining my individual taste.  I absolutely love culture and everything else that goes with that topic.  I am most gratified that fashion is much freer than it used to be.  It seems like “anything goes” sometimes, and very few things look outdated.  I take great pleasure in looking at classy models dressed in clothing that is flattering and decent while still being fashionable.  It gives me hope that even as I near the fourth decade of my life, I don’t have to sacrifice who I am for style.

I do believe that as one gets older, life and style both evolve.  I honestly don’t mind if someone is wearing something appropriate that is not necessarily the latest style.  I am more bothered by people in their 30’s and 40’s (and older) who dress like they are teenagers!  Because of the wide variety of fashion out there nowadays, everyone is capable of finding something flattering that matches his/her age.

One of the things that really bothers me is when women choose to dress provocatively.  There are many styles out there that are appropriate for every occasion imaginable, and they do not require displaying parts of the body that give the wrong perception.  I have many outfits that flatter my body type without putting it on display.  It is imperative to match the fashion to figure no matter what the popular style is out there.  In these days of social media hysteria, you will no doubt find your picture online (possibly even without your knowledge or permission), and you want to be grouped with the classy, beautiful people rather than those who made the dreadful fashion faux pas.

Well-said! I also notice nowadays, there are lots of people who do not know how to dress properly (depending on age, career, occasion, etc.).
