When I Fall Please Grab My HandWhen I Fall Please Grab My Hand by Christine Z. DeWitte

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I cannot believe I have not read this book before now. It has been sitting on my shelf for quite some time, and I finally chose today to read it, and I am glad I did! This is a gem of a devotional for women/moms, and I doubt it is very well known. And that in itself is a definite shame. The positive aspects of this book far outweigh and potential criticisms.

The first thing I noticed and appreciated about this book is that the chapters are short. This means that if you are looking for a quick devotional reading for a busy mom, this will fit the bill nicely. The theology is always sound, and it is clear that the author understands the modern woman. While I can’t truly identify with hair issues and grandkids, this only adds to the universal appeal of this book. Every woman is certain to find at least one thing that will inspire, encourage, or instruct them.

So what did I glean from the book? My “bookmarked” section involves her list of what a Pharisee is. I don’t mean to take the spotlight off me, but this list described my father quite well. This list is concise, Biblical, and something I plan to reread at a later time. It is also something that can be a word of caution for me since hypocrisy is almost the top-hated sin in my book. And if that doesn’t spark your intellect, I can almost assure you that you will find plenty more morsels in this book.

As to the criticisms, I only have two, and they are miniscule at best. I wish that the author had begun with a brief testimony. She hinted at some aspects of it, but I would love to read it. I also wish that the chapters were organized a little more. I prefer devotionals where like-minded chapters are grouped together under titles and/or subtitles.

In spite of these, I still give this a 5-star rating, and I would certainly recommend it to practically any woman in my life.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

About the book:  A practical, humorous and wonderfully self deprecating application of Scripture for women to use as they journey through normal day to day activities! This gathering of daily thoughts was inspired by a ladies Bible Study group to use as a tool for personal growth and devotional time with Christ. Walking in faith is not about some unattainable holiness and religious perfection, it is about utilizing and applying our Father’s Word while we do the laundry, love our families, balance our schedules and serve our Lord! God can use any person, any situation, regardless of their past mistakes and current circumstance – if only we seek HIM!

About the Author: Chrissy DeWitte has been married for 20 years, and has two grown children and two grandchildren. Although Chrissy accepted Christ when she was 24, it was not until 17 years ago that she began to attend a Bible believing church. Over these past 17 years, learning and applying the Bible to everyday situations has transformed her life! She has learned through life’s imperfections, divorces, deaths, challenges, mistakes and victories, that the Lords joy can always be present when we seek His will. She has served in the USAF and went on to be a financial counselor at Consumer Credit Counseling and then as a civil servant for the military. She now works full time for her husband and also does bookkeeping for contractors. Chrissy teaches a weekly ladies Bible Study and is very involved in serving the Lord at her church.
